Using quizzes to re-engage your existing supporters

Charities spend a lot of time, energy and money finding new supporters. But some of the most valuable people on your list are already there - they've just gone quiet. Maybe they signed a petition two years ago, or donated once at Christmas. They haven't unsubscribed. They've just stopped paying attention.

A quiz gives you a way to change that.

Give people a reason to come back. A re-engagement email that says "we miss you" only goes so far. But one that says "how much do you know about what's happened since you last took action?" is a different proposition. It's low-commitment, it's curiosity-driven, and it doesn't ask for money. It just asks for a few minutes.

Find out what's changed. The person who signed up three years ago isn't the same person today. A quiz lets you learn something new about them: what they care about now, what they know, where their assumptions sit. So your next communication can be based on who they are today, not who they were when they first joined your list.

Warm people up before a big moment. If you're about to launch a major campaign, an appeal, or a new area of work, a quiz is a smart way to prepare the ground. It introduces the issue, gets people thinking, and creates a natural lead-in to whatever you're about to ask. People are far more likely to act on something they've already spent a bit of time with, even briefly.

Segment without surveys. Surveys can be a great way of collecting information about our supporters. But most likely most supporters won’t fill it in. Many of them will take a quiz though. And every answer gives you data you can use, not just to personalise your next email, but to sort your list into meaningful groups based on what people actually told you, not what you assumed about them.

Give your best supporters something to do. Re-engagement isn't only about the quiet ones. Your most active supporters want to feel involved too, and a quiz gives them a way to interact with your work beyond giving money or signing and sharing a petition. It's also the kind of thing people share off their own bat, extending your reach without you having to lift a finger.

Not every lapsed supporter is lost. Sometimes they just need something worth clicking on. Get in touch to talk through your ideas, or sign up free and build your first quiz today.
